Italy’s ambassador to Kenya, Vincenzo Del Monaco, spoke in Nairobi at Gambero Rosso’s “Top Italian Wine Roadshow” event, organized by Italy’s leading food and wine media company, which has included Kenya in its international circuit for the third time, in collaboration with the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Nairobi.

The day saw 45 wineries already awarded with the well-known “bicchieri” of the Gambero Rosso guide, representing almost all Italian regions, present about 200 different labels to the Kenyan market, including bubbles, whites, rosés and reds.

Participants at the event included importers, distributors, insiders, journalists and enthusiasts from other African nations as well, with an interactive tasting and the presence of Italian and Kenyan sommeliers, producers and experts.

In the presence of Gambero Rosso CEO Luigi Salerno, the Ambassador explained the peculiarities of the Italian wine sector, which in Kenya is the third largest market for imports and whose commercial growth is closely linked to knowledge of our country’s traditions and culture.

The day before the Gambero Rosso showcase, some of the companies attending the Roadshow were involved in a series of B2B meetings with Kenyan importers and distributors at the Italian Embassy in Nairobi, organized by the Ice agency.

The Italian Cultural Institute, on the other hand, offered a performance by Italian artist Rita Barbero, aka Purpleryta, who brought a live art performance to Nairobi, during which she created works of art taking shape from a “stain” of wine.

After an interactive workshop attended by enthusiasts and those curious about this technique, a selection of her works was exhibited during the event.
