Minister Bonino congratulates Amina Mohamed

“Warmest sincere congratulations” were conveyed today by the Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Emma Bonino, to the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, Amina Mohamed. “I am all the more pleased as you are the first woman to receive this distinction in your country”, the Italian Minister added, and “I am sure that you will carry out successfully this prominent assignment, thanks to your well-known experience and qualification”.

Recognizing that Kenya is a key partner for Italy in Africa, and that the Italian-Kenyan cooperation has always been based on shared values, and further recognizing the crucial role of Kenya in the region and beyond, Minister Bonino said she looked forward to working with her counterpart to move forward the stabilization process in Somalia. She also emphasized that “Italy, as a co-chair of the IGAD Partners Forum, will continue to support IGAD and its important role in fostering peace and regional integration”.

Finally, Minister Bonino said she was confident that Italy and Kenya will have the opportunity to further strengthen their traditional ties of friendship, and that she was looking forward, further to the recently concluded successful negotiation, to an early signature of a new Agreement for the San Marco Program at the “Luigi Broglio Space Centre” in Malindi.
