Launch of the “Africa in the Road Project” organized by the Italian Trade Agency
The three-day “Africa on the Road Project”—a business mission organized by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) in collaboration with the Cibustec Exhibition—kicked off yesterday in Nairobi. Speakers at the opening seminar included: Italian Ambassador Vincenzo Del Monaco, CEO of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) Tobias Alando, ICE Nairobi Director Giuseppe Manenti, Cibus Tec Director Fabio Bettio, and Renzo Piraccini of Italian Agri Food Technology for Africa.
Thirteen companies from the agritech and food processing sectors participated in the event, with the aim of fostering strategic partnerships with key Kenyan players in the agri-food supply chain. At the conclusion, all participating companies presented their products.
Kenya currently represents one of the most strategic markets for the export of Italian technologies related to both field cultivation and food processing. The entire African continent faces structural challenges that result in the loss of 30 to 50% of agricultural products during post-harvest, storage, and packaging phases. In this context, the demand for advanced food processing and packaging technologies in Africa and in key countries such as Kenya is estimated to be growing steadily at a rate of 10% per year.
Now in its first edition, the initiative aims to strengthen the position of Italy’s foodtech and agricultural machinery sectors by addressing local demand for the modernization of production processes and the enhancement of food safety. The mission demonstrates once again how Italy, with its excellence across the entire foodtech supply chain, can become Kenya’s ideal strategic partner for modernizing field operations, food processing, and improving food safety—with the goal of creating the right added value for the entire agri-food chain.
